Roger Skai and Thomas Bellezza invited AoB co-founder Anthony DeVito onto Top of the Bottom Pile on BBOX radio. Their show is "a gathering of comedians focused on working together as a team among like-minded individuals to bring laughter, success, and a little fun back into the business side of comedy." As a comedian, Anthony fit right in. And as an entrepreneur he shared some valuable insights on what he's learned in his career as an actor, arts organization co-founder and long-time advertising professional.
They talked comedy, acting, the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival, Brooklyn On Demand and lots more. A silly, loose conversation that has some solid business tips for people who are working and creating independently. Have a listen:
Writer/Director Kevin Alexander doesn't like the word 'mockumentary' so he prefers to call his award-winning film about an up-and-coming Brooklyn electronic music duo a 'fictional documentary.' Hunter&Game is very funny, but it's not exactly a comedy. And the performances and original songs are so strong that you'll have to remind yourself you're watching a fictional account of a fake band. It's hard to describe... but luckily it's now streaming for free on Brooklyn On Demand online and on Roku, so you can see for yourself.
Brooklyn On Demand brings Brooklyn-centric independent film and media to Roku with a free channel that's been seen over 12,000 times in its first week and earned a 5-star customer rating. BKOD has over 70 films, original series and bonus features. Most titles are free with purchases available a-la-carte. The streaming channel is produced and curated by The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival.
We're very proud to announce our Call For Entries for the 6th annual edition of AoBFF — the only film festival in the world for, by and about Brooklyn-centric films and filmmakers. We are accepting films via FilmFreeway and Withoutabox and have extended our low-priced Early Bird rates all the way to October 31st. Our Screening Panel of industry pros watches every single film we get. Not every festival does that, but it's important for us to let filmmakers know their work is being taken seriously. We have a lot of great stuff planned for 2016 but it all starts with Brooklyn's best new indie films. So enter yours today! Tiny Gran'pa makes it big! Director Will Caballero's groundbreaking series comes to HBO Latino.8/20/2015 First, there was the short film "How You Doin' Boy? Voicemails from Gran'pa" which had its NYC Premiere at the 2014 Art of Brooklyn Film Festival. (And took home the Best Animation award to boot.)
But Gran'pa was too big for just one film, so he became a web series. Now, the world's tiniest abuelo will be doling out advice for two seasons on HBO Latino via a “first of its kind” acquisition deal for interstitial programming between creator William D. Caballero and HBO.
Brooklyn On Demand — the world's only streaming platform dedicated to films with a Brooklyn connection — has added Free movies to its catalog of exclusive indie rentals.
BKOD, which is produced by The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival, offers independent filmmakers a choice in how they market their work after they've completed their festival run. The site features exclusive Premium titles (50% of each rental goes back to the filmmaker) and a growing list of free flicks from filmmakers who prefer not to charge for views. Joining the new indies are 'Classic Cuts'; vintage public domain films that have a Brooklyn connection via cast, crew or theme. Some are classics and some are classicly bad... and they're all free. The Art of Brooklyn continues to explore new ways for a 21st century film festival to be relevant and provide value for indie artists and audiences.. Look for another new Brooklyn On Demand announcement coming soon! 'The Art Of Brooklyn Film Festival’s award ceremony for 2015’s winners had barely finished when I was lucky enough to hustle the executive producer Joseph Shahadi and panelist/filmmaker Clare Kent into the suddenly empty and echoey cinema for a good old summarizing chin-wag. Clare had compiled some diversity stats on the content this year that turned out to be massively thought-provoking and Joseph obviously had plenty to say on the subject of his fifth film festival.
The awards had been dished, the contributors thanked and the projection screen rolled up, and it was time to reflect. Here are the passionate duo’s thoughts on the borough they’ve invested so much love and care into.' Read the full interview at Girls On Film. |
