As we gear up for the 2015 Art of Brooklyn Film Festival, we wanted to take a moment to list everything we're thankful for. Our 5th(!) Annual AoBFF is in May. May 13-17 to be exact. May rules our lives and our brains. May! May! MAAAYYYY. Some days it feels far away, other days it feels like tomorrow. We're working overtime to make FIVE our best yet, which is why it's important to take a beat, take a breath, and say thank you. We're thankful this concept of ours is working. When we started in 2011, we knew we were onto something. But would it work, this idea of a festival totally focused on Brooklyn — in all her diverse, complicated glory? Would people get it? Well, it did and you do. Thank you!
We're thankful for the filmmakers who are linked to Brooklyn, whether born and raised here, or relocated here because, well, it's BROOKLYN after all! Filmmakers who have spent formative time in Kings County, a special place that you have to know to understand. You appreciate what we do and we appreciate you. Thank you! We're thankful for everyone who volunteers to help us do everything from hang posters to sell tickets to clean up after one of our legendary parties. Always with a smile and that special Brooklyn energy. Thank you! We're thankful for our sponsors and partners, who help us do what we could never do on our own. You make it possible for us to create an event worthy of Brooklyn. We're the only festival ever to reach out to neighborhoods that don't usually host film festivals. Because to us, there are no "wrong" neighborhoods. We're about the whole borough... and our partners make it possible for us to grow every year. Thank you! We're thankful that the launch of Brooklyn On Demand was such a hit. Great press, enthusiastic support and people renting films from amazing indie talent. BKOD is just getting started and it's yet another way to reward Brooklyn-centric art. Thank you! And last — but nowhere near least— we're thankful for our fans and supporters. Those who buy tickets and show up in person, and those who help us spread the word far and wide. Everyone who follows us on social media and interacts with us all year long. Everyone we meet who tells us "This is such a great idea! How did nobody do this before??" We wouldn't be much of a film festival if nobody showed up. And you do. Thank you! Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving and thank YOU for supporting The Art of Brooklyn. Get the latest news from The Art of Brooklyn and Brooklyn On Demand!
