 Legendary underground filmmaker Nick Zedd and creative complex Brooklyn Fire Proof are proud to announce the release of two new short films, “The Death of Muffinhead” and “Attack of the Particle Disruptors,” produced by Brooklyn Fire Proof Films and shot in Brooklyn Fire Proof’s Bushwick soundstages. Both films were directed by Nick Zedd, produced by Kenneth Filmer, and feature effects and animation by Nouri Zander. Brooklyn Fire Proof ’s founder Thomas Burr Dodd served as executive producer.
Both will screen Thursday, June 8 in the Film As Art block at the 7th Annual Art Brooklyn Film Festival. Inspired by Governor Rockefeller's opening of the first group home for residents coming out of Willowbrook at 310 67th Street, in Bay Ridge. DON'T CALL ME SIR! Biography/Drama, written by Bo Svenson A rite of passage drama that tells the story of artist Jackson Pollock’s niece, Brooklyn-born Rena “Rusty” Glickman, the only person of the Jewish Faith to receive Japan’s highest civilian honor — The Emperor’s Order of The Rising Sun. As a twelve-year-old, Rusty learned about the horrors of the Holocaust and resolved THAT was not going to happen to her. She would be better and stronger than THEM — THEY would not win this time. She didn’t know how, but then she found judo — a sport at which she excelled but from which women were excluded. So in 1959 and then a single mother, Rusty decided to compete in the New York State Judo Championships while disguised as a man. In a stunning upset, Rusty beat the reigning State Champion — but as she stood on the podium to receive her gold medal, THEY asked if she was a girl. When she acknowledged that she was, the organizers took back her medal! THE DARK SEASON Thriller, written by Jaime Baker A religious family finds refuge in their New York City home during a vicious pandemic that ravages most of the population. Barely surviving the stress of the situation, an unexpected guest destroys their social order. Entirely set and conceived in Brooklyn.
