Whitewashing, Crowdfunding, Podcasting, Pitching... and bringing FEUD: Bette and Joan to life: Industry Workshops and Panels of the 7th Annual Art of Brooklyn Film Fest aim to illuminate and educate.

As a filmmaker-focused event — and the only film festival exclusively devoted to the Brooklyn scene — The Art of Brooklyn is always looking for new ways to help emerging creators grow and succeed, while recognizing the hurdles and issues artists face.

​For 2o17 we've teamed up with industry players to bring a slate of educational workshops and hot-button panel discussions to our filmmakers and audiences. We've even programmed a block of them on Saturday, June 10 at St. Francis College to make it even easier to attend!

Creating FEUD from Script to Screen: Talking with co-creator Michael Zam
​Michael Zam, screenwriter, NYU instructor, and co-creator of FEUD: Bette and Joan with Ryan Murphy will join with Guest Festival Director, award-winning screenwriter (and former student) Dave Chan to talk about Michael’s writing process for the pilot script of FEUD.

Between Yellow Face and White Washing: Asian Americans in (and on) Film
AoBFF Guest Festival Director Dave Chan leads a lively industry panel discussion on the mis/under-representation of Asian-Americans in a Hollywood that can’t seem to stop white washing Asian stories. This panel will address creative solutions on how to correct this from a grassroots level on up. Panelists include Celia Au (Gotham, Iron Fist), Becky Yamamoto (Fort Tilden, Good Enough), Eddie Shieh (Split End, Film Labs Present series), David Huynh (Hamlet, Vietgone) and Anne Hu (Cake, Balloon)

In her workshop, Squeaky Moore covers common pitching mistakes, how to avoid and correct them. She focuses on the preparation of pitching, outlining what film and media makers need to prepare to be fully ready to pitch. She has developed an invaluable 9 point pitching checklist, including a discussion of pitch materials, packaging your project, researching who to pitch, how to create wishlists for pitching and packaging, mind mapping your pitch to know what to include once you are in front of decision makers, and more.

Fast, Cheap & Under Control: Micro-Budget Filmaking in NYC
​This workshop seminar, led by award-winning filmmaker and Pratt instructor Eric Trenkamp, discusses the fundamentals of talent, location and music releases for indie filmmakers in New York City.
The discussion will provide an understanding of the terminology used in these documents, the legal rights they protect, and why they are necessary both legally and from the point of view of a potential distributor.
